Volunteer for a week

During this week you get to experience volunteer work, meet people from all over the world and get insight in work of our sister NGO’s: Dream Africa Care Foundation and FAFA Foundation.

Week program

We pick you up on Monday morning at an agreed location in Accra. We show you around the different projects, give you an introduction about the NGO’s and introduce you to your new colleagues.

In the afternoon, we sit down together to set up a week schedule, regarding your preferences, skills, experience and your location. If there is time, you get the option to participate and give extra classes to the children in Teshie Fishing Village.

From Tuesday to Friday you follow your schedule and participate in (one of) the projects. You eat lunch at the volunteer house and get to share your experience with the other volunteers.

 

Contribute as a volunteer

You can contribute in many ways! On the first day we will discuss in what way you can contribute.

 

Here are some examples:

  • Share knowledge with children in one of the school projects. You can prepare a presentation, class or exercise in your field of expertise. For example: creative arts, sports, biology, music, science, (your) culture, history, etc.
  • Join our local coach in the soccer training and play football with the children.
  • Help a child with homework during a one-on-one tutor training.
  • Share your business skills and help the management.
  • Play with the children, do sports, sing songs, read books and/or give extra attention to the children in the children’s home.
  • Teach in a understaffed school in subjects like: Englishs, maths, science, RME (religious and moral education)
  • Your own idea of contributing as a volunteer for a week.. 

Practical information

'Volunteer for a week' is suitable for everyone. There are no special qualifications required. We believe that everyone can contribute in his or her own way. You can join as a single or in a small group.

Location

The projects you can attend are based in Accra, mainly in Teshie-Nungua and James Town. In case required, we can assist you to find accommodation nearby the projects. 

Available dates

‘Volunteer for a week’ is available from Monday to Friday. We also offer you the option to experience volunteer work for a day.  

Price

€100,- /¢400,- per person for five days. This price includes your transportation and orientation on the first day, a buddy that joins you during the projects, drinking water and lunch. The fee will partly be spent to support the projects.
