What should I bring?

The most important thing to bring is your passport and a good mood! After you've booked a trip we will send you a packing list. 

How can I stay connected with home?

For travelers that attend a week trip, we provide a sim-card with a local phone number. You can purchase phone credits at many places and it is relatively very cheap. The 3G network in Ghana is generally stable, but you will not always have access to electricity. For emergency cases we will bring a 4G Surfline device.

Do I need insurance?

Yes, for any trip to Ghana we recommend you to have travel insurance.

Do I need a visa?

Yes, all persons entering Ghana must be in possession of a valid passport and travel documents. On this page you can read more information about visas.

Where can I book a flight?

Flight tickets to Ghana are not included in the prices and you have to book it yourself. On this page we give more information about flights to Ghana.

Is it allowed to drink alcohol/do drugs?

The minimum age for drinking alcoholic beverages in Ghana is 18. It is illegal to do any other types of drugs. Smoking tobacco in public places is forbidden and smoking in crowed places will not be appreciated.

Can Dream Africa Travels help us with finding accommodations before or after our trip?

Yes, off course! Tell us your wishes and we will find a suitable accommodation in Accra or other parts Ghana. Costs for extra nights are not included.

How do I get from the airport to the first accommodation?

Let us know your flight number, time and date of arrival at Kotoka Airport and we will pick you up. We wait for you in the hall of arrivals. You can recognize us by our Dream Africa T-shirts.

I want to stay longer, it that possible?

Yes, you can stay a few days longer, but there won’t be a program organized we will charge an additional for extra nights. You can also check out the volunteer programs of Dream Africa Care Foundation.

Is it possible to combine trips?

Yes, it is possible to combine trips. Please let us know in which trips you are interested and when you like to come.

I want to talk with someone who had been in Ghana before. Is that possible? 
Yes, you can. Contact us and we will get you in touch with one of our representatives in Austria, the US, Germany, Holland, Finland, etc.

Where are we going to sleep and will I share my room with other people?
We selected the best amazing places to sleep, for weekend and week trips. To keep our prices low, we book shared rooms. Please let us know if you want a private room or if you have other preferences

How can I pay for the trip?

After booking your trip trough this link, we will send you a confirmation email with bank details. 

How can I get money in Ghana?

Ghana Cedi is the currency in Ghana. In most places it is only possible to (only) pay in cash. In Accra and other big cities you can get cash money out of the ATM with most credit and debit cards. It is best to check with your bank if your card works for withdrawing money in Ghana. It is also possible to exchange Euro’s, dollars, Swiss Francs and pounds into Cedi’s. Another way to get Cedi’s is to send money through Money Gram or Western Union. On the day of arrival we will help you to get money.


FAQ -Food 

Are the costs for food included and what kind of food do we get?

This depends on the trip you book, but for most trips meals are included. We served different kinds of food from the Ghanaian kitchen. If desired, we serve food that meets the Western taste.

I’m a vegetarian/I’m on a diet. Is that a problem?

Vegetarian is not a problem at all, and it is the same for most diets. Let us know the kind of diet you are on and what allergies you have when you book a trip.

Can I drink water from the tap?

No, in Ghana you cannot drink water from the tap. During all trip we will provide mineral drinking water. To prevent you from sickness we recommend you not drink tap water and use mineral water for brushing your teeth.

Are we allowed to drink alcohol?

The minimum age for drinking alcohol in Ghana is 18 years and any other kinds of drugs are prohibited. Dream Africa Travels will not serve alcoholic beverages and/or drugs. If you are above 18, you can buy alcoholic drinks at your own responsibility. Note that you are not allowed to join some of the activities when you are under the influence of alcohol/other drugs.

FAQ - Safety and health

Is Ghana a safe country?

Yes, Ghana is in general a safe country. They call Ghana ‘Africa-for-beginners’, since it is one of the safest and welcoming countries in Africa. Ghana is a political stable country and welcoming towards foreigners. Be careful with giving out personal details and be discreet when it comes to strong opinions about religion and gay-sexuality. As long as you will use common sense and respect the culture and people, you will be fine.

Is there Ebola in Ghana?

No, there is no Ebola in Ghana and the nation does not share boarders with countries that have been affected by the Ebola outbreak. For more information about the current health situation we direct you the website of World Health Organization (WHO). 

What about Malaria?

Yes, there is Malaria in Ghana. Visit your doctor to get prescription medicine before, during, and after your trip to prevent malaria. We recommend you to wear long sleeves at night and use mosquito repellent.

What if I fall sick during a trip?

We will take care of you and guide you to a good clinic or hospital, in case you need to see a doctor.

What about a culture shock/being home sick?

Ghana, and Africa in general, is a total different world compared to western countries. To prevent a culture shock, we recommend you to read a lot about the country and its culture to you prepare your self well.

How is the health care in Ghana?

Ghana has good hospitals, doctors and clinics and most medicines are available at the pharmacy. The Healthcare system generally good, but it is best to prevent yourself from falling sick. Be careful with hygiene: wash your hands with soap before eating, drink only mineral water and be careful with street food. Here are some more tips.

What is the culture in Ghana like?

Ghana is a very peaceful and religious country. The main religions are Christianity, the Islam and traditional African religions. The social aspect is important. The culture is community based and consists of sharing, greeting and respect. During each trip you get to learn more about the culture and our guides are there to answer your questions.

How should I behave?

Respect the culture and the people. The most important is to always use your right hand to give and receive items, and to eat, to always greet people first when you enter an area and to dress proper. Check this page for more guidelines. Our guide will tell you more about the culture and advise you how to behave around local people.

How are locals towards foreigners?

Overall, Ghana is an extremely welcome country toward foreigners. You will get many friends requests; people are friendly and open to meet you. Keep in mind that you are a guest in a foreign country. Respect the rules, dress codes and culture.

Is there a dress code and what should I wear?

The dress code in Ghana is not strict, but it is recommended and appreciated to cover your self. Ghanaians do not like short pants/skirts, bare shoulders and a bare tummy. The guide will instruct you and give advise. Read more about what clothes to bring.

What is the language in Ghana?

Ghana is a multilingual country and the official language is English. Ghana counts more than seventy tribal groups, each with its own distinct language. Our local guides would like to teach you some basics of ‘Twii”, the most widely spoken language in Ghana, but with only English you will also be fine.
