FAQ - The trip

What are the prices for the trip and what is included?

The trip will costs €595,- per person for 14 nights. Accommodation, mentioned activities, food, drinking water, airport pick-up, 24/7 support and transportation are included.

What is not included in the price?

Flight ticket to Kotoka Airport (Accra), sodas/alcoholic beverages, snacks, souvenirs, travel insurance and extra nights are not included.

What dates do the trips start?
Summer 2016, Dream Africa Travels organizes three15-day trips on the following dates:

Tour 1 - 8th of July –22th of July 2016

Tour 2 - 29th of July –12th of August 2016

Tour 3 - 19th of August –2th of September 2016

How many people will join the trip?

For each trip we are counting on 20 to 50 enthusiastic and adventurous people from all over the world.

Is there a minimum age?

The minimum age for the trips is 17. If you are younger then 18 we need a signed letter with permission from your parents.

What kind of people will join this trip?

People that join our trip are young, enthusiastic and adventurous people from all over the world.

Can I come together with (a group of) friends/ my boy or girlfriend?

Yes of course! We believe the more souls, the more fun!

Can I come alone?

Definitely! This trip is a perfect opportunity to make friends and get to know people from all over the world.

I've never travelled on my own/traveled to Africa. Is Ghana a good place visit? 

Yes, we believe so. Ghana is generally a safe and welcome country to travel to, and especially if you book a tour trough Dream Africa Travels. If you join the 15-day trip, you do not have to worry: we selected the best accommodations and the greatest activities. You will get good instructions and orientation about the culture, airport pick-up and 24/7 support. Besides that, you travel in company with other people from United States, Europe and other countries to share your experiences with.

FAQ - Safety and health

Is Ghana a safe country?

Yes, Ghana is in general a safe country. They call Ghana ‘Africa-for-beginners’, since it is one of the safest and welcoming countries in Africa. Ghana is a political stable country and welcoming towards foreigners. Be careful with giving out personal details and be discreet when it comes to strong opinions about religion and gay-sexuality. As long as you will use common sense and respect the culture and people, you will be fine.

Who is taking care of me during the trip?

We will, and we guarantee you a 24/7 support in Ghana. You will travel with both local and western guides; there is a medical assistant and two qualified drivers on our bus. We travel in a large group as one big family: two weeks long we will all be sisters and brothers, keep an eye on each other and enjoy Ghana as much as we can!

Is there Ebola in Ghana?

No, there is no Ebola in Ghana and the nation does not share boarders with countries that have been affected by the Ebola outbreak. For more information about the current health situation we direct you the website of World Health Organization (WHO). 

What about Malaria?

Yes, there is Malaria in Ghana. Visit your doctor to get prescription medicine before, during, and after your trip to prevent malaria. We recommend you to wear long sleeves at night and use mosquito repellent.

What if I fall sick?

We will take care of you, especially in case you do not feel well. We have medical assistance on the bus for first aid. We will guide you to a good clinic or hospital, in case you need to see a doctor.

What about a culture shock/being home sick?

Ghana, and Africa in general, is a total different world compared to western countries. To prevent a culture shock, we recommend you to read a lot about the country and the culture to you prepare your self well. In case you get a culture shock/fall homesick:  share it with your fellow travellers (who are probably experiencing the same) or your guide. Together we will find a solution :)

How is the health care in Ghana?

Ghana has good hospitals, doctors and clinics and most medicines are available at the pharmacy. Healthcare in Ghana is generally good, but it is best to prevent yourself from falling sick. Be careful with hygiene: wash your hands with soap before eating, drink only mineral water and be careful with street food. We provide you with a welcome pack with more tips.

FAQ - Activities

What kind of activities are included and what does it cost?

The trip is full of fun; interesting and adventurous activities, which are all included in the price. Other activities are for your own costs.

Is it compulsory to join all activities?

We are all in this together as one group, so we will encourage you to take part in all activities, but the activities are not compulsory.

Will I have spare time to do other activities?

The trip has a filled program, but there will be enough time to relax or discover places your self. Other activities are at your own risk and costs are not included.

Do I have to stick with the group during the trip?

Yes, during the trip we  travel as one group and we are all in this together. Discuss with your guide if you want to engage in other activities and do not leave the group without permission from one of the guides. Keep in mind that you are in a foreign country and that you respect the rules and culture.

How is transportation arranged?

Transportation and the costs are all included in your trip. The day of arrival you will be picked up from the airport by car or taxi. The rest of the tour we will all drive together with a private bus. We will inform you what time the bus will set off, make sure you are on time.

What are the costs for the trip?

What is included in the price?

How can I pay for the trip?

After booking your trip trough this link, we will send you a confirmation email with bank details. 

How much money should I bring?

It depends on what you want and can spend. Transportation, accommodation, food and water are included, but it is best to have some pocket money to buy souvenirs, snacks, (alcoholic) beverages, phone credits, etc. In general, Ghana is less expansive than Western countries.

How can I get money in Ghana?

Ghana Cedi is the currency in Ghana. In most places it is only possible to pay in cash. In Accra and other big cities you can get cash money out of the ATM with most credit and debit cards. It is best to check with your bank if your card works for withdrawing money in Ghana. It is also possible to exchange Euro’s, dollars, Swiss Francs and pounds into Cedi’s. Another way to get Cedi’s is to send money through Money Gram or Western Union. On the day of arrival we will help you to get money.

FAQ - Culture

What is the culture like?

Ghana is a very peaceful and religious country. The main religions are Christianity, the Islam and traditional African religions. The social aspect is important. The culture is community based and consists of sharing, greeting and respect. During the trip you will teach more about the culture, and on your first day you will get a welcome pack with more information.

How should I behave?

Respect the culture and the people. The most important is to always use your right hand to give and receive items, and to eat, to always greet people first when you enter an area and to dress proper. Check this page for more guidelines. Our guide will tell you more about the culture and advise you how to behave around local people.

How are locals towards foreigners?

Overall, Ghana is an extremely welcome country toward foreigners. You will get many friends requests; people are friendly and open to meet you. Keep in mind that you are a guest in a foreign country. Respect the rules, dress code and culture.

Is there a dress code and what should I wear?

There is not a strict dress code, but it is recommended and appreciated to cover your self. Ghanaians do not like short pants/skirts, bare shoulders and cover your tummy. The guide will instruct you and give advise. Read more about what clothes to bring.

What is the language in Ghana?

Ghana is a multilingual country and the official language is English. Ghana counts more than seventy tribal groups, each with its own distinct language. Our local guides would like to teach you some basics of ‘Twii”, the most widely spoken language in Ghana, but with only English you will also be fine.

FAQ - Food

Are the costs for food included and what kind of food do we get?

Yes. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the price. You will get served different kinds of food. We would like you to try the Ghanaian kitchen, but all dishes will meet the Western taste or are prepared with a Western touch.

I’m a vegetarian/I’m on a diet. Is that a problem?

Vegetarian is not a problem at all, and it is the same for most diets. Let us know the kind of diet you are on and what allergies you have, we will let you know if we can assure you a menu that meets your diet.

Can I drink water from the tap?

No, in Ghana you cannot drink water from the tap. During the trip we will provide mineral drinking water. To prevent you from sickness we recommend you not drink tap water and use mineral water for brushing your teeth.

Are we allowed to drink alcohol?

The minimum age for drinking alcohol in Ghana is 18 years and any other kinds of drugs are prohibited. Dream Africa Travels will not serve alcoholic beverages and/or drugs. If you are above 18, you can buy alcoholic drinks at your own responsibility. Note that you are not allowed to join some of the activities when you are under the influence of alcohol/other drugs.

 

FAQ - Practical questions

What should I bring?

The most important thing to bring is your passport and a good mood! After booking a trip trough this page, we send you a packing list. 

Is there access to Internet and how can I stay connected with home?

On your day of arrival, we provide you a sim-card with a local phone number. You can purchase phone credits at many places and it is relatively very cheap. The 3G network in Ghana is generally stable, but you will not always have access to electricity. For emergency cases we will bring a 4G Surfline device.

Do I need insurance?

Yes, for any trip to Ghana we recommend you to have travel insurance.

Do I need a visa?

Yes, all persons entering Ghana must be in possession of a valid passport and travel documents. On this page you can read more information about visas.

Where can I book a flight?

A flight ticket is not included in the price and you have to book it yourself. On this page we give more information about flights to Ghana.

Is it allowed to drink alcohol/do drugs?

The minimum age for drinking alcoholic beverages in Ghana is 18. It is illegal to do any other types of drugs. Smoking tobacco in public places is forbidden and smoking in crowed places will not be appreciated.

What if I arrive earlier then the introduction day?

That is no problem; we can book a/some extra night(s) for you in Accra. Let us know your flight details, date and time of arrival. We will come to pick you up at Kotoka Airport and bring you to your accommodation. It is very likely that you will not be the only one arriving earlier, so a big change that you get to meet the other travellers at the hostel. Costs for extra nights are not included.

What if I arrive later then the introduction day?

That would be a pity: you will miss the first fun of this trip! Anyway, no worries! Please contact us and we will see if we can find a solution.

How do I get from the airport to the first accommodation?

Let us know your flight number, time and date of arrival at Kotoka Airport and we will pick you up. We wait for you in the hall of arrivals. You can recognize us by our Dream Africa T-shirts.

I want to stay longer, it that possible?

Yes, you can stay a few days longer, but there won’t be a program organized. We charge an additional fee for extra nights. You can also check out the volunteer programs of Dream Africa Care Foundation.

I want to do voluntary work in Ghana. Is that possible?

Yes, it is possible to combine the 15-days trip with doing volunteer work before or after. Contact us and check out the DACF-Website for the available projects.

I want to talk with someone who had been in Ghana before. Is that possible?
Yes, you can contact us on this page so that we can plan a Skype meeting with one of our representatives in Austria, Holland, Finland, Germany, etc.

FAQ - Accommodation

Are the costs for accommodation included?
Accommodation for 14 nights is included in the price. In case you arrive earlier or want to stay longer, we can help you with booking extra nights. The costs for extra nights are not included in the price.

Where are we going to sleep and will I share my room with other people?
We selected eight amazing places to sleep. To keep our prices low, you will share your room with other travelers. If preferred, we can make sure that boys and girls sleep separate.

Is it possible to share a room with my (boy/girl) friend?

This is depending in the accommodation and the availability. Let us know whom you like to share your room with. We will try to meet your wishes as much as possible.
